Concerned About an Individual? Here’s What to Do
If you are concerned about an individual exhibiting reckless, disorderly, dangerous, or threatening behavior, take the following steps to ensure safety and connect them with the support they need.
Recognizing Signs of Distress
An individual in distress may display persistent behaviors such as:
- Excessive anxiety, sadness, or irritability
- Withdrawal or social isolation
- Confusion or difficulty concentrating
- Lack of motivation
- Seeking constant attention
- Demonstrating bizarre or erratic behavior
- Expressing suicidal thoughts
Immediate Actions
If there is an immediate potential for danger, call 9-1-1 or University Security & Police Services at (208) 426-6911 right away.
Supporting Boise State Students
- Contact Counseling Services at (208) 426-1459. Visit their website at www.boisestate.edu/healthservices/counseling/.
- Submit a C.A.R.E. Report at www.boisestate.edu/care/how-to-refer/. This electronic referral system connects individuals to campus services that provide counseling and intervention.
Supporting Faculty and Staff
For Boise State faculty or staff members, you can also submit a C.A.R.E. Report through the same referral system to ensure they receive appropriate support.
