Curriculum Changes Beginning Fall 2025
The department is excited to announce some curriculum changes to the psychology major requirements intended to help better connect students to careers. In the future, psychology students will take a career-focused course at each class level (freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior). These courses will be targeted to focus on the information students most need at each level of their education.
What is Changing?
Past and current students (those enrolled under current course catalogs) are required to take PSYC 120 (2 credits), an early career-focused course, and PSYC 487 (3 credits), a capstone course. Instead of these courses, future students will take PSYC 111 (1 credit) during their freshman year, PSYC 222 (1 credit) during their sophomore year, PSYC 333 (1 credit) during their junior year, and PSYC 444 (1 credit) during their senior year.
These new courses will be offered in 5-week sessions, and occasionally as weekend workshops.
How Does this Affect Me?
Current students who change their catalog year to 2025-2026 will be subject to these new requirements. Do not change your catalog without discussing the impact of a catalog change with an advisor.
PSYC 120 is being offered in Summer 2025. However, beginning in Fall 2025, PSYC 120 will no longer be offered. However, current students who have not completed the PSYC 120 requirement by Fall 2025 can take PSYC 111 and PSYC 222. These two courses (when completed) will automatically fulfill the PSYC 120 degree requirement for students enrolled under current catalogs.
Beginning in Summer 2026, PSYC 487 will no longer be offered. However, current students who have not completed the PSYC 487 requirement before Summer 2026 can take PSYC 333 and PSYC 444. These two courses (when completed) will automatically fulfill the PSYC 487 degree requirement for students enrolled under current catalogs.
