Duke Davis, D3 Student at Midwestern University’s College of Dental Medicine in Glendale, Arizona, and Boise State Alumni
Duke Davis is currently attending Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine in Glendale, Arizona. He is finishing up the third year of his DMD professional degree. Originally from California and then later moving to Middleton, Idaho, during high school. Duke began his college career at the College of Western Idaho and then finished his Bachelor of Science in Health Science Studies with a Science Emphasis at Boise State in December of 2017. During his time at Boise State, he pursued several activities sponsored by the Pre-Dental Club and observed dentists in his community. He earned the Dentists and Physicians scholarship in 2017. What is it like being a dental student during a pandemic?
At MWU – Glendale as a D3 I have been basically a full-time (4.5 days a week) in the clinic seeing patients. Our lectures have always been recorded but now we can watch the lectures at our convenience instead of needing to be in attendance.
What do you think was the most important experience you had at Boise State?
Getting the direction I needed to go upward after graduation.
What resources did you use at Boise State to prepare you for your dental career?
Working with academic advisors and being in the Pre-Dental Club.
Do you think Boise State prepared you for your dental school career?
Yes as much as they could.
What would you tell yourself now knowing what you know now about applying to dental school?
Focus on GPA and DAT scores and don’t take interviews too seriously.
What do you wish you would have known before becoming a dental student?
A better understanding of business.
