Scope and Audience

This policy applies to the Vice President for Research and Economic Development and Faculty.

1. Policy Purpose

To establish policy for the creation of a Faculty Research Committee. Committee members shall provide a communication link necessary to foster and encourage research within the academic community between the Division of Research and Economic Development and the college/schools in which each member holds an appointment.

2. Policy Statement

This standing committee shall serve as a faculty advisory group to the Vice President for Research and Economic Development to provide overall advice on strategic directions for University research and creative activity programs, and policies and procedures developed and implemented through the Division of Research and Economic Development.

3. Responsibilities and Procedures

3.1 Faculty Research Committee

Committee members shall provide a communication link necessary to foster and encourage research within the academic community between the Division of Research and Economic Development and the college/schools in which each member holds an appointment.

3.2 Areas of Responsibility

a. Help to develop and promote a research culture on campus.

b. Assist in the review of research-related policies, procedures, and guidelines.

c. Act as a liaison between the Division of Research and Economic Development and the faculty to disseminate information related to research and sponsored project activities.

d. Represent faculty research interests individually and/or collectively and be responsive to questions and concerns of both faculty and student researchers.

3.3 Committee Composition

3.3.1 Membership

A minimum of one (1) representative per academic college/division, one (1) liaison from the Faculty Senate, and a minimum of one (1) representative from Research Faculty.

3.3.2 Selection

Members shall be selected by the Faculty Senate Nominating Committee in collaboration with the Deans and the Vice President for Research and Economic Development.

3.3.3 Term

Members shall serve no more than two (2) consecutive years on the committee.
