Constitutional Conversations: Maintaining the Guardrails of Democracy in an Era of Constitutional Chaos

In one of his last letters, written in November of 1789, Benjamin Franklin wrote a friend in Paris: “Our new Constitution, now established, everything seems to promise it will be durable; but in this world, nothing is certain except death and taxes.” As America approaches the 250th anniversary of the Constitution in 2026, the premise of durability is under serious challenge, undermined, in the view of many, by the Supreme Court’s precedent -shattering opinions, legislative indifference at the state and national levels, to fundamental rights and protections, presidential assault on the Constitution, and the sharp decline in civic literacy. In this program, “Constitutional Conversations,” Dr. David Adler, an author and nationally recognized constitutional expert, analyzes the threats and challenges to our constitutional order and addresses questions from the audience.
