Custodial Services

Custodial Responsibilities

Day Shift:

The day shift provides porter service to academic buildings. Porter service is defined as:

  • Restroom restocking and sanitation
  • Removing trash from hallways, lobbies and other designated common areas
  • Keeping entry doors and glass clean
  • Seasonal care such as snow shoveling and cobweb removal around building entryways

The day shift is also dispatched responsively to deal with spills, restroom concerns or other custodial issues that require immediate attention. You can place a request for responsive service by calling (208) 426-1409 or emailing svcreqs@boisestate.edu.

Swing and Late-Night Shifts:

The swing and late-night shifts provide general housekeeping and custodial services, such as:

  • Restroom cleaning
  • Trash and vacuum services in classrooms and offices. Classrooms are cleaned daily; you can find frequencies for other types of space listed on the frequency charts below
  • Sweeping or mopping of stairs, elevators and hallways
  • Light bulb replacement and dusting

The swing and late-night shifts also perform annual hard floor and carpet care duties.

Custodial Services Frequency Charts

Custodial Services is committed to using all available resources to provide the highest quality services possible. To achieve this, the following cleaning frequencies have been developed for all academic and research related facilities:

Cleaning schedules by building

Service in offices is once per week for removing trash and vacuuming. Service in research labs is two-three times per week for removing trash, restocking dispensers, and sweeping/mopping floors. If lower usage is apparent, custodial supervisors will use their judgment on service frequency. Holidays and other operational needs may delay services to the next day.

Custodial Services Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Where can we dump food items to guarantee they will be disposed of that day?
A. Food and other perishable items can be placed in trash receptacles in office kitchens, hallways, or restrooms, as all of these areas receive daily custodial service. Additionally, if your trash can is full or contains these types of items, you can place it in the hallway outside your office and it will be emptied that evening.

Q. When will my carpets be cleaned?
A. Carpet cleaning is provided on an annual schedule at no cost to the department. Additional carpet cleaning can be requested at your expense, with the exception of carpet spot cleaning, which is a routine custodial work order. You can contact svcreqs@boisestate.edu to find out when your carpets were last cleaned.

Q. How do I get a new trash can for my office, classroom or kitchen?
A. University-standard trash and recycling containers are provided free of charge through the central store. Email svcreqs@boisestate.edu with your location and the number of containers required and they will be sent with your next custodial supply order.

Q. What do I do if I have an unusually large amount of trash on a particular day?
A. If you are having an event or cleaning out your office and expect to have a large number of items to dispose of, please request additional trash and/or recycling bins by contacting the facilities office directly at (208) 426-1409 or email svcreqs@boisestate.edu.

Q. Who do I call if I don’t receive my normally scheduled custodial service?
A. Please contact the main facilities number at (208) 426-1409 to report any service issues and the dispatcher will forward your concern to the appropriate supervisor.

Q: Who do I call if my recycling is missed?
A: The steps are the same for recycling as they are for custodial service. If you call (208) 426-1409 the recycling supervisor will be notified.
