Capital Renewal Program
In fiscal years 2023-2024, Boise State received $90M in deferred maintenance funds from the State of Idaho. These funds will allow us to complete several top projects on the university’s capital renewal/deferred maintenance list. Projects on this list address deficiencies in our campus facilities and infrastructure that had been deferred until funds were available. Prioritized projects address multiple issues, such as life safety, accessibility, infrastructure performance, resource efficiency and renewal of critical building systems, such as electrical, plumbing, and cooling/heating and ventilation systems.
Some common themes are:
- Replacing End-of-Life Equipment: Several projects focus on replacing equipment that is nearing the end of its useful life, such as the fluid cooler at the Mathematics Building , the central steam plant boilers , and the fire alarm systems in Liberal Arts and Mathematics. This will help to ensure the continued functionality and reliability of these systems.
- Improving Energy Efficiency: Many of the projects aim to improve the energy efficiency of campus buildings. For example, replacing the fluid cooler and central steam plant boilers with more modern equipment will reduce energy consumption.
- Enhancing Safety and Resiliency: Upgrading the fire alarm systems and replacing the generators will improve safety in campus buildings by ensuring that critical systems such as fire alarms, egress lighting, and elevators can function during a power outage.
Overall, these projects are focused on maintaining and improving the functionality, efficiency, and safety of Boise State’s campus buildings.

These projects may impact building patrons and occupants. The Capital Renewal team will strive to communicate as early as possible about the projects and expected impacts with building stakeholders. Additionally, we have prioritized concurrent projects in buildings so that required outages can be concentrated to as short a time period as possible.
While these projects may cause an inconvenience, our hope is that addressing them in a scheduled, proactive manner will prevent the additional burden of having to perform emergency maintenance when systems fail.
