Residence Hall Project

Site progress, October 2024

Construction of a student residence hall is underway in the existing parking lot between Albertsons Library, the Hemingway Center and the Amphitheater. The new structure will include 452-beds to support first-year students on Boise State’s campus beginning in fall 2025. The facility is in the core of campus, near several academic and student support facilities. Its strategic location will be conducive to building community and fostering long-term academic success for first-year student residents.

The initial phase of construction will see removal of the existing parking lot and relocation of existing underground utilities.

The housing units will consist of 219 double occupancy rooms with central bathrooms, 14 Resident Advisors rooms with private bathrooms, and a two-bedroom Resident Director apartment. Common spaces such as study areas, lounges, laundry facilities, meeting spaces, offices, package rooms, as well as mechanical spaces are also included. The total building area is approximately 98,000 sf.

This project is designed to achieve a minimum of LEED Silver certification as defined in U.S. Green Building Council LEED v4 Building Design and Construction for New Construction standards.

Road/sidewalk closures

  • Theater Lane closure: The north section of Theater Lane, between the Hemingway Center and Cesar Chavez Lane, will be closed to all vehicles beginning Sept. 22, 2023. This portion of the road will remain closed during construction of the new residence hall. Alternate routes to access Cesar Chavez Lane from University Drive should be used during the construction period.
  • North Hemingway Center walkway: From Oct. and until further notice, the construction fence will be expanded to include the electrical transformer at the western corner of the Hemingway Center. Through traffic on the walkway north of the building will be blocked during this time.
  • Theater Lane sidewalk closure: From Nov. 6 and until further notice, the Theater Lane construction fence will extend to include the sidewalk and a portion of the grass to the east. Sidewalk closure and detour signs will be provided by the contractors.

Utility outages

Short-term outages of water, gas, electrical and fiber are expected in the initial phase of construction, ending approximately in January 2024. Affected building occupants will be notified by Architectural and Engineering Services project managers of disruption of services. All outages will be scheduled to ensure as little impact to campus as possible, while also meeting the requirements of the project’s contractors and utility providers. Specific details of outages will be added to this page as they are confirmed.
