Pathway Options for the Online Degree Pathway
Boise State’s Online Degree Pathway helps you build a path to success and accomplish your educational goals.
Pathways are an important step in your academic journey. They allow you to take classes and certificates that can be immediately applied to your career or folded into a bachelor’s degree program at Boise State.
What are Pathways?
With the Online Degree Pathway at Boise State, you can:
- Complete the 40 University Foundations credits that are required for online programs or apply transfer credits to meet these requirements.
- Choose a pathway to complete 20 elective credits.
- Seamlessly transition into an on-campus or online bachelor’s degree and finish the remaining 60 credits needed to graduate from Boise State University.
Pathways help fulfill the 20-credit elective requirement to earn a degree at Boise State. They include certificates and classes that allow you to explore your interests, build your skill set and prepare for a bachelor’s degree while staying on track with your academic goals.
For example, if your goal is to advance your career and move into a cybersecurity position, you may create a pathway that includes the Certificate in Cyber for All and elective classes from the cyber operations and resilience program. You will work closely with your academic advisor to choose classes that align with your goals.

Popular Bachelor's Degree Pathways
Pre-Business Administration Pathway
Learn fundamental business skills including managerial problem solving, leadership, teamwork, responsible business practices, innovation and modern workplace management with the pre-business administration pathway.
This pathway prepares you to succeed in Boise State’s online Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Management. After completing the pre-business administration pathway, you will need to complete the BBA in Management program application to be admitted into the bachelor’s program.
Pre-Business Administration Pathway Courses
The following curriculum list shows the courses that are suggested to complete the pre-business administration pathway. View course descriptions in the undergraduate catalog.
Take ECON 201 Principles of Macroeconomics (3 credits) and complete at least one of the following certificates -or- choose individual classes from them to fulfill your elective requirements:
- Certificate in Business Preparation (11 credits)
- Certificate in Professional Readiness (12 credits)
While the courses in these certificate programs are not required to apply for the BBA in Management, they provide a strong base for success in the program. Students who successfully complete all of the listed certificate courses will earn an additional standalone credential which can be useful for professional development.

Certificate in Applied Computing, Systems, and Network
Prepare to be a successful cybersecurity professional by learning the fundamental principles of secure design, computational thinking, cloud computing, python programming and more. Ideal for students who are new to the cyber field.

The Certificate in Business Preparation equips you with the skills necessary to transition into the Bachelor of Business Administration in Management at Boise State. Certificate in Cyber for All
Our technology-forward world is rapidly expanding. Learn fundamental cyber defense skills and understand the implications of good versus bad cyber hygiene with the 12-credit Certificate in Cyber for All.
Certificate in IT Support for All
Learn the fundamentals of day-to-day IT support and explore the basics of networking, infrastructure, operating systems, system administration and best practices to address threats and attacks.
Complete this seven-credit certificate in one semester.
Certificate in Media Content Management
The online Certificate in Media Content Management focuses on digital content management for websites and social media as well as basic media production skills.
