Hi, I’m Josh Filzen, director of the Master of Science and Accountancy programs here at Boise State University, and I teach mostly financial accounting courses, including financial statement analysis and valuation.
The online MSA from Boise State University isn’t just another online program, it’s a rigorous, accredited program that mirrors our in-person program. In fact, when you earn your degree from Boise State, your diploma will be the same diploma as our in-person students.
Our commitment to you is that you’ll be taking courses from the same great faculty teaching in our in-person programs, and you’ll be held to the same standards. Whether you come to Boise State or not, as you search for a program that fits your needs. Please take note of whether you are earning a degree from the university itself or from some global or online version of the university that may or may not use the same faculty that teach in their in-person programs.
All of our classes are designed by nationally recognized professionals with years of experience in the field. Our program is designed to be completed asynchronously. Each course will have periodic due dates throughout the semester, but no set times to be in class. Although some faculty do offer optional extra virtual study sessions for students, those are always recorded for students who can’t attend.
In our courses, we encourage student interaction and faculty maintain an important presence in their courses. For example, it’s important to me to have my students see me during the semester so I film most of my problem videos at a whiteboard. This program isn’t just respected in Idaho, but across the country. We hold international AACSB accreditation as well as supplemental AACSB accreditation in accounting specifically.
This double accreditation puts us in the top percentage of all accountancy programs nationwide. Our program helps prepare you for the CPA exam as well as for your career. Taking additional specialized courses in accounting, while earning a master’s degree is the best choice to set yourself up for success in your career. Imagine taking a position in public accounting or an industry in tax, but you never took a corporate tax course.
That’s a required course in our program. Most undergraduate programs only expose students to individual tax. An MSA degree from Boise State can open more doors for you and take you further. Our program is flexible so you can start any semester, including the summer. We offer admission to qualified students with no GMAT or GRE requirements. Qualifying students automatically receive a 15% reduction in tuition.
For example, if you have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above, if you’re a veteran or graduate of a university in the state of Idaho. We also have other scholarships available, including accounting specific scholarships. That’s through the normal university scholarship process with the February 15th deadline. It should be noted that you need to be a full time student to receive those scholarships.
What if you don’t have an undergraduate degree in accounting? Well, we have a program that results in the exact same degree called our foundations program. You end with the same 30 credit program that I’ve been discussing, but you start with 3 to 18 credits of foundations courses, depending on your background.
