After working as an adjunct faculty member for the Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning (OPWL) department, this fall, Dr. Ria Roy joined the OPWL department as a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor. She holds an integrated undergraduate degree in Accounting and Auditing from the University of Mumbai (Mumbai, India); an MBA in Management Information Systems as well as an M.S. in Human Factors in Information Design from Bentley University (Waltham, MA); an M.S. in Training and Development from Worcester State College (Worcester, MA); and a PhD in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University (Bloomington, IN).
Professionally, Dr. Roy’s functional experiences are in the areas of consulting, market research, analytics, and project management. Over the years, her professional engagements have morphed to include organization-wide projects to include the development of organizational strategy; facilitating the launch of strategic business units; co-facilitating the acquisition of a firm, streamlining business processes, and resolving issues around cultural integration; conducting feasibility assessments and market readiness of strategic business units; and the designing, developing, launching, and leading of customer retention programs across the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and India. Her portfolio has also included the management of high-value strategic emerging projects; knowledge-management systems; and decision support systems project based on an understanding of tools, applications, and audits across commercial analytics, forecasting, investor relations, managed care, market intelligence and competitive research, and new product planning.
Dr. Roy has presented at conferences hosted by the International Society of Performance Improvement (ISPI), American Evaluation Association (AEA), and the Academy of Human Resource Development (AHRD). Her publications are in the areas of strategy, organization design, innovation, and in the development of the field of performance improvement. She has authored a book chapter titled “A Decade’s Worth: A Construction Firm’s Journey from Recovery to Growth” in Cases on Learning Design and Human Performance Technology (2019). Her research endeavors are to understand how firms can preempt challenges that hinder performance and organizational effectiveness, and how organizations can lead in an integrated manner eschewing the siloed perspective.
OPWL is delighted to have Dr. Roy as a member of the department! This fall, she is teaching OPWL 531 Quantitative Research in Organizations and OPWL 592 Portfolio culminating activity class.
