Modality Considerations by Location

The Treasure Valley covers a section of Idaho and Oregon and includes, but is not limited to, the following cities: Boise, Cascade, Caldwell, Idaho City, McCall, Meridian, Mountain Home, Nampa, Ontario, Payette and Weiser.

If you plan to complete your clinical in the Treasure Valley, modality program directors will only accept the number of students for which clinical placement is available. You must apply before the application deadline to be considered.

Application Process

The online Bachelor of Science in Advanced Medical Imaging, Diagnostic Medical Sonography Modality is divided into two distinct phases: pre-advanced medical imaging and a modality year. You must complete the admission requirements for both phases.

Pre-Advanced Medical Imaging

As a pre-advanced medical imaging student, you will complete prerequisite courses and secure a clinical site for your chosen modality.

To be considered for the pre-advanced medical imaging phase, you must:

  • Be accepted to Boise State University as a degree-seeking student.
  • Connect with a student success coach.

Advanced Medical Imaging Modality Year

The modality year takes place in your final year of the program. Here, you will be fully admitted to the advanced medical imaging program and complete modality-specific courses and clinical experiences.

To apply for the modality year, you must:

  • Have earned a minimum of an associate degree from an accredited institution.
  • Complete or in-progress pre-advanced medical imaging courses.
  • Have secured a clinical site before the program application deadline.

To be considered for the pre-advanced medical imaging phase, you must apply to Boise State by the application deadline, as shown in the following table.

Program Application Deadlines

To be eligible for the modality year and clinical experiences, you must secure a clinical site by March 1 for fall semester clinical experiences.

Clinical experiences are a capstone of the advanced medical imaging program. These experiences are conducted in your local area, prepare you for licensure exams and give you hands-on experience in the industry. You are expected to find and secure your own clinical site by using resources provided by the program.

Application deadlines ensure an appropriate clinical site is approved in time for your first clinical experience course, which happens in your final year of the program.
