What is a public health degree?

Public health entails a wide variety of jobs essential to the overall well-being of any community. A public health degree gives you the necessary tools to do those jobs and make a difference in the career field.

Boise State University’s online Bachelor of Arts in Public Health can help you develop the essential skills to apply across several settings to promote the health of people, communities and the population.

The degree is designed for anyone who has a passion for health equity and awareness. It will give you the necessary knowledge to be a public health professional and community health and wellness advocate.

The program is designed for adult students committed to keeping their skills relevant and actionable, aligning with public health sector demands. You will explore current issues affecting populations, including poverty, disease prevention and disaster relief.

Graduates of the program are in position for actively enhanced professional careers or securing entry-level positions within federal, state and local agencies, for-profit and nonprofit organizations, as well as business and industry.

Bang for the buck

Boise State’s online public health degree incorporates four certificates into the curriculum, providing you with enhanced expertise and marketability without taking additional coursework. These certificates include:

  • Health and Human Behavior: Learn general concepts related to the human body and determinants of health and evidence-based health interventions. Also, prepare to analyze health threats with real-time strategies via a holistic overview of health and wellness.
  • Evidence-Based Public Health: Acquire the skills to apply evidence-based decision-making and effective public health action with an emphasis on coalition development and community-based prevention.
  • Foundations of Public Health: Discover the ins and outs of protecting human health, navigating policy and legal challenges, designing interventions and addressing evolving health threats.

These certificates, along with one in public health, can be earned separately without enrolling in the online Bachelor of Arts in Public Health.

The certifications address immediate skill gaps while you build toward a full degree. This approach provides an efficient, cost-effective pathway for you to acquire specialized knowledge and showcase your expertise.
