The MS in Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning (OPWL) helps professionals perform a variety of jobs to accomplish their goals while also giving back to their community. OPWL student Brandy Muñiz is one of those professionals.
Muñiz serves as the Executive Director of HopeNet, a 34-year-old direct service organization. She oversees providing and distributing food and housing to those in the Metro Los Angeles area and beyond. In addition, HopeNet’s flagship program, the Food Pantry Program, supplies food and resources to 12 food pantries/partners. Together, HopeNet and these partners form a network that spans over 20 miles. The network is committed to providing free food to anyone that wants or needs it. As well as, ensuring that every pantry upholds a safe and welcoming environment that treats each client with dignity and respect.
In 2020, HopeNet provided 2 million meals. HopeNet’s housing program provides quality and permanent housing to 55+ low-income residents.
Muñiz selected the MS in OPWL to deepen her knowledge of Instructional design and learn applicable tools that could be used to enhance and advance the non-profit sector; she wanted to show how OPWL/Instructional Design could successfully be used to improve the sector and its array of missions. She is leveraging the workplace learning curriculum to educate the public on the resources needed, as well as the resources available. She has used the data component of the program to create unique tracking systems with minimal input points. This data has been used to leverage fundraising efforts as well as assess program needs and capacity. She is leveraging the performance improvement curriculum to identify opportunities of need, to evaluate the merit, worth, and value of the services provided, and propose performance improvement interventions when educating the public alone will not accomplish the goal.
OPWL is proud to be assisting professionals such as Muñiz to be the difference that makes the difference.
