STEPS (Student Training & Education in Public Service) ranked Boise State University’s Master of Social Work Online 41st on their list of the nation’s best Master of Social Work programs. The ranking is based on online delivery and flexibility, affordability, a well-rounded curriculum and proper accreditation.

Regular/Advanced Standing Master of Social Work

Boise State offers both a regular and advanced standing MSW program entirely through online delivery. The regular program is designed for students who’ve previously earned a degree in a field other than social work, while the advanced standing allows students with previous social work training to get a jump start on their education. To qualify for the advanced standing program, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  1. You graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work from a Council of Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited school within the last seven years.
  2. You graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work from a CSWE accredited school within the last 10 years and have significant post-BSW social work practice experience.

If you do not meet either of the qualifications above, you are encouraged to enroll in the regular program to give yourself the best education in social work possible.

MSW Licensing Information

Boise State’s Master of Social Work Online meets the professional licensure standards of all 50 states and all U.S. territories. Some states require additional information to become a licensed professional social worker. Each state has its own requirements for licensure based on what state and area you plan to work in. Most students in the social program seek licensure upon graduation as many states reserve the title of social worker to those licensed.
