Zoom AI Companion is available to all Boise State faculty, staff, and students.

Sign in to Zoom using your Boise State username and password to take advantage of AI Companion. If prompted, select your Boise State Google account.

What is Zoom AI Companion?

AI Companion is a tool used during Zoom meetings that helps support you in a variety of ways, such as:

  • Allowing hosts to generate summaries of a Zoom meeting
  • Dividing recordings into smart chapters and creating action items
  • Meeting transcription
  • Generation of interactive whiteboards in a live meeting

AI Companion does not use any user data for training or machine learning improvements and is compliant with FERPA regulations and the protection of sensitive information.

How do I enable AI Companion?

Boise State University will enable the Zoom AI Companion, but it will be OFF by default for all users. To enable AI Companion:

  1. Navigate to www.zoom.us
  2. Click Sign In at the top right
  3. Click SSO at the bottom of the page
  4. Use boisestate as the domain, and sign in with your Boise State credentials
  5. Click Settings on the left-hand navigation panel
  6. Click AI Companion at the top of this settings page

Why should I use AI Companion instead of other AI tools, such as OtterAI?

AI Companion is officially supported by the Office of Information Technology. AI Companion meets all standards for data privacy and security. It does not use any user data for training or machine learning improvements and it is compliant with FERPA regulations and the protection of sensitive student information. OtterAI is currently being investigated for privacy and safety concerns.

How do I find my meeting summary?

The summaries of these meetings created by the Zoom AI Companion will not be shared automatically, and users will need to find the summary in their Zoom web portal for further review.

Can I ask AI Companion questions about the meeting in progress?

We will be locking the setting to ask the Zoom AI Companion questions about the meeting in progress at an institutional level as we learn more about the feature and its usage.

Can I use AI Whiteboard?

The AI Whiteboard feature will be turned on by default, allowing users to generate live and interactive whiteboards of the current meeting that can be retrieved, edited and worked in after the meeting has ended.
