Frequently Asked Questions

Zoom Meeting Questions

What do I need to use Zoom?

Zoom requires an Internet connection and one of the following:

  • A desktop computer with a webcam and microphone.
  • A laptop with a built-in camera and microphone or a webcam.
  • An iOS or Android mobile device (including Chromebooks) with the Zoom mobile app installed.

We recommend using a desktop or laptop computer for the best experience. Check out Zoom’s minimum system requirements for details.

Do I need to install the Zoom App?

We recommend Zoom’s web portal for configuring most Zoom settings and the Zoom app for the best in-meeting experience. Visit Boise State’s download center to download the Zoom desktop client app to your desktop or laptop.

For mobile devices, search the device’s app store for Zoom and install the app.

Are meetings secure and private?

Yes. Boise State has enabled several security features by default. Our Zoom security help articles provide additional instructions for scheduling and hosting secure Zoom meetings using your Boise State Zoom account. Zoom’s privacy statement is also available for your review.

When would I use the Canvas Zoom learning tool integration (LTI)?

Using the Zoom LTI in Canvas works well for recurring office hours or synchronous sessions. All course enrollees have one-click access to meetings through the Canvas course site. And, meeting recordings are automatically uploaded so anyone who misses a meeting has easy access.
