Assistant Professor
Dr. Ryoko Kausler is an Assistant Professor at Boise State University School of Nursing. She earned her PhD in Nursing Science from the University of Utah, Master’s in Population Health Nursing and BSN from Boise State University, and post-master certificates in Nursing Education and Family Nurse Practitioner. She is a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner.
Beginning her career as a psychiatric mental health nurse, Dr. Kausler’s research now focuses on maternal mental health, particularly perinatal depression/anxiety and substance use in rural healthcare settings. She currently leads a NIH/NIGMS pilot study examining telehealth interventions for perinatal mental health and substance use risk, while collaborating on an NIH/NINR grant developing web-based interventions for perinatal depression prevention. Her work includes evaluating depression and anxiety screening tools through electronic health records and studying faith-based support systems in perinatal care. Through partnerships with healthcare institutions and local communities, she explores technology-based interventions to enhance access to perinatal mental health care, particularly addressing comorbid psychiatric illnesses and prevention. Her research has been published in leading journals including BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth and the Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic, and Neonatal Nursing.
