Associate Professor, School of Nursing
Molly Vaughan Prengaman completed her doctoral degree in nursing with an emphasis on health policy at the University of New Mexico in 2016. Prengaman received her MS from Idaho State University and her BS from Boise State University. She is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner.
Prengaman began her career at Boise State University in 2005. She has taught a variety of courses in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. She has been teaching a variety of courses in the AGNP program since its inception.
Her research interests include health policy, rural health, and vulnerable populations. Her research has explored frontier grandparents raising grandchildren and rural nursing workforce issues. Several of her research projects have incorporated undergraduate student involvement.
Prengaman served as PI on a research project that culminated in the development of the Nursing Community Apgar Questionnaire (NCAQ). The NCAQ is a tool that Critical Access Hospitals can utilize to evaluate and enhance their rural nurse recruitment and retention efforts. Prengaman’s work on this topic is interdisciplinary as she collaborates closely with colleagues at Boise State University’s Center for Health Policy.
Ongoing multidisciplinary collaboration is key to Prengaman’s research trajectory as she continues her efforts to address rural workforce issues; improve vulnerable populations’ access to care, particularly the elderly and rural communities; and illuminate the health impact of public policies.
She recently spent a sabbatical semester exploring rural NP practices and factors that influence rural RNs’ decisions whether or not to become NPs.
Prengaman is a native Idahoan and enjoys active participation in the community. She volunteers regularly at the Garden City Community Clinic, St. John’s Food Bank, and Friendship Feast for the homeless.
