Dr. Spurlock earned her bachelor’s degree from James Madison University, her master’s from the University of Virginia, and a post-masters certificate in applied biostatistics and PhD in Nursing from the University of Kentucky. At Kentucky, her dissertation focused on policy predictors of tobacco cessation. She has taught in undergraduate and graduate nursing programs for over thirty years in universities in South Dakota, Idaho, Kentucky, and Alabama.

For the past eleven years, her scholarship has focused on the evaluation and use of blended tube feedings in children, and more recently, chronically ill adults. Her academic concentrations are evaluation methods/research methodology, and biostatistics. She has published numerous manuscripts in refereed
journals, two book chapters and has presented her research nationally and internationally. Spurlock is a
proud member of Sigma Theta Tau, International, the honor society of nursing and has served as a mentor in the Academic Leadership Academy.


Spurlock, a native of Virginia, moved back to Boise in 2021 with her husband (who also teaches at Boise
State University). She enjoys walking her three dogs and enjoying the beautiful Treasure Valley.
