Twenty community health and leadership nursing students, working with School of Nursing faculty members Cathy Deckys and Pam Strohfus, recently developed and coordinated four meningitis clinics on campus. The clinics were in partnership with the Idaho Immunization Coalition and included assistance from several other volunteers from Boise State and the local community. Virginia Tech student Rayna DuBose also came to inaugurate the first clinic in March. DuBose was stricken with meningitis disease in 2001, losing all of her limbs to this disease.
Get Immunized
In Idaho, college students are not required to receive the meningitis vaccine. Strohfus has secured several thousand doses of the vaccine from the Idaho Immunization Program to be given free to Idaho college students, staff and faculty between the ages of 19 and 55. There are several clinics being held throughout Idaho. To get your free vaccine, visit the Idaho Meningitis College Campus Campaign Facebook page or website.
