School of Nursing Faculty Presents Tips on Accurately Assessing Pain in Assisted Living Residents with Dementia

Cecile B. Evans, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, faculty in the School of Nursing, presented at the Idaho Health Care Association-Idaho Center for Assisted Living Winter Convention on Feb. 5 in Boise, Idaho. Evan’s presentation, “Can You Tell Me Where It Hurts?” helped attendees learn how to accurately assess pain for assisted living residents with dementia. Evans provided background on pain management in persons with dementia and discussed the challenges of assessment and treatment. The assessment of wound pain was presented as an exemplar to demonstrate how the concepts of pain management in persons with dementia can be applied.
