Connecting with Students and Instructors

  • The preceptor will be introduced to the student by the clinical placement team if they have not been in contact before.
  • Faculty, students, and preceptors, confer three times during the semester. Once, at the beginning, they have an introductory meeting where they exchange contact information and connect the preceptor to the student. In addition, faculty complete site visits every semester during the midpoint where they meet with the preceptors and students. At the end of the semester the faculty, preceptor, and student confer to discuss end of clinical rotation evaluations.
  • Clinical Faculty meet at least weekly with each clinical student. Additional Clinical Faculty reach out to introduce themselves to the preceptors at the beginning of the semester, providing their contact information. Additionally, Clinical Faculty communicate with the preceptor no less than at the beginning of the semester, mid term and at the end of the semester. Clinical faculty meet with preceptors as often as necessary to facilitate student engagement and ensure the clinical experience is meaningful and educational. Preceptors are encouraged to reach out to clinical faculty as
needed if a student fails to meet expectations during the rotation.

Evaluations

When the student has completed 50% of their hours, you will be asked to complete a mid-semester evaluation on the student’s progress

  • Boise State uses Typhon Group’s Nurse Practitioner Student Tracking (NPST) System, an internet-based system to evaluate student’s clinical competencies at the conclusion of each clinical rotation. The preceptor will be sent instructions and Typhon login information to complete this evaluation near or at the conclusion of the student’s rotation.
  • A site visit may be conducted by a Boise State faculty or adjunct member during the students’ rotation and will be communicated and coordinated with you beforehand by said instructor
