Costs and Financial Aid Information for the Nursing Program

Cost of Attendance

Earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is an excellent investment and choosing Boise State University offers you a high quality nursing education. In addition to the cost of tuition for both pre-nursing and nursing courses, students accepted to the nursing program should budget for the cost of professional fees, uniforms, books and required health and background checks. Many of these costs are accrued during the first semester of the nursing program and we encourage students accepted to the nursing program to plan in advance for these additional start-up fees.

Students should also be prepared to pay a graduation application fee and costs for Convocation and Commencement regalia (graduation gown, honors cords, nursing pins, etc). In addition, upon completion of the program, there will be costs associated with taking the standardized exam (NCLEX) used to acquire licensure as a registered nurse.

Financial Aid

Many students are eligible for federal financial aid.

Scholarships for Nursing Programs

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program has awarded over $1.5 million in scholarships over the last three years. Students admitted to the nursing program will have the opportunity to apply for these scholarships each spring semester.

Professional Fees for Nursing Students

Each semester, nursing students are assessed a fee of $678. The professional fee funds simulation time, supplies for labs, standardized tests, clinical placement, malpractice insurance, and other costs related to the specialization of nursing. The professional fee is subject to change with no advanced notice and is non-refundable after the 10th day of the semester in accordance with the university fee refund policy (view website).

Please Note: Students taking pre-nursing courses are not assessed a professional fee. The professional fee only applies to students accepted to the nursing program.

Books

The total cost of books during the 5-semester nursing program is between $1550 and $2000. However, this cost is not spread evenly over semesters. Students should prepare for a book cost of approximately $1000 during the first semester of the program and between $100 and $200 in the following four semesters.

Uniforms

Nursing students are required to wear uniforms while in class and while participating in clinicals. Please budget between $300 and $400 during the first semester for uniforms to wear over the course of the nursing program.

Health Requirements and Background Checks

Nursing students are responsible for costs associated with meeting health requirements and for getting a background check each semester.
