AGNP Admissions

Application Steps

1. Complete the online Boise State Graduate College application.
2. After you submit the application and pay the $65 Graduate College application fee ($95 USD for
   international applicants), click on the “Nursing” link in the left navigation menu. This will take you to the
   Application Requirements for Graduate Programs in Nursing screen where you will upload documents
   required for admission consideration.
3. Under NURSING LICENSE, upload a copy of your active, unencumbered RN license issued by a state or
   territory of the United States.
4. Under PERSONAL STATEMENT, upload a Goal Statement.
   Use the Goal Statement to introduce yourself, your educational goals, and your long term professional goals to the admission committee. This statement will be evaluated for the quality of both the content and writing style (i.e. grammar, punctuation, spelling, word use) and must:
   1. Clearly explain the advanced practice nursing role you seek to fulfill following graduation.
   2. Provide rationale for specializing in either Acute Care or Primary Care.
   3. Demonstrate your understanding of the role of the advanced practice nurse practitioner in Adult
      Gerontology.
   4. Explain why you have chosen the AGNP program at Boise State University.
   5. Be no more than 500 words.
5. Under RESUME OR CURRICULUM VITAE, upload a CV or Resume.
   Please include any applicable specialty certifications and information regarding your work experience as a
   registered nurse.
   If you are applying to the Acute Care program, include documentation of one year of direct patient care
   experience in Acute Care, Emergency Room or similar critical care environment/department with the
   patient population of interest (Adult/Gerontology).
6. Skip the sections, NURSE PRACTITIONER LICENSE and NURSE PRACTITIONER CERTIFICATION. These sections do not apply to applicants to the master’s degree program.
7. Please complete the Letters of Recommendation section of the application by using the link located in the left navigation menu. After you submit this information, your references will be emailed and asked to complete an evaluation form. References should be nursing faculty members, professional healthcare colleagues, or work
   supervisors who can evaluate your potential for success in a graduate program. Recommendations from
   family, friends, other students, or co‐workers are NOT appropriate.
8. Submit the School of Nursing application processing fee ($20) via TouchNet .
9. Arrange for official transcripts to be sent to Boise State.

Application Requirements

In addition to the direct care experience listed above, all applicants must possess the following:

1. A baccalaureate degree in nursing from a CCNE or ACEN (formerly NLNAC) accredited nursing program.
2. Written and spoken English proficiency (mandatory).
3. Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale), computed using upper-division credits from the last half of undergraduate nursing courses.
4. If applicable, a 3.0 GPA in previous graduate program courses (on a 4.0 scale).
5. An undergraduate statistics course with a grade of “C” or better. If this course was completed 5 or more years prior to admission, applicants are highly encouraged to update their knowledge of statistical course content prior to entry into the AGNP program.
6. An undergraduate research course with a grade of “C” or better. If this course was completed 5 or more years prior to admission, applicants are highly encouraged to update their research skills prior to entry into the AGNP program.
7.  The ability to meet the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) functional abilities essential for nursing practice, including:
   1. Ability to see, hear, and touch, smell and distinguish colors.
   2. Oral and writing ability with accuracy, clarity and efficiency.
   3. Manual dexterity, gross and fine movements.
   4. Ability to learn, think critically, analyze, assess, solve problems, and reach judgments.
   5. Emotional stability and ability to accept responsibility and accountability.
8. Hold a current, unencumbered* RN license from a state or territory of the United States. (*Unencumbered license is one that is not revoked, suspended, or made probationary or conditional by the State licensing or registering authority.)

Residency Requirements

The AGNP program is available to nurses currently practicing in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming.

PLEASE NOTE: Some states may have additional licensure requirements including, but not limited to: fingerprinting, verification of citizenship, and/or verification of certification. It is the applicant’s responsibility to seek guidance from his or her own to identify any supplemental materials or education that will be essential to fulfilling licensure prerequisites. Requirements for International Applicants

All applicants who attended nursing school outside of the United States or United States territories must meet all application requirements above AND comply with the following from the Commission of Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) and provide an academic review to Boise State University:

1. Credentials review
2. Qualifying examination of nursing knowledge
3. English proficiency exam
4. Graduate College Application Fee for international students is $95.
