The campus and public are invited to the Winter Service-Learning Exhibition, featuring roughly 50 student service-oriented posters, from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, in the Student Union Lookout Room. The Service-Learning Exhibition allows students to showcase visual displays of their service-learning experiences, final projects and research. Students from classes in English, kinesiology, nursing, engineering and other departments will be on hand to discuss their service-learning projects. The diversity of disciplines and projects in the exhibition illustrates the broad reach of Boise State University’s commitment to civic engagement.
Refreshments will be served. Following the exhibition, the best poster from each college will be on display Dec. 10-14 on the third floor of the Interactive Learning Center.
Service-learning is a teaching and learning method that integrates course content with relevant community service. Each year Boise State offers more than 160 service-learning courses in 33 departments, representing every college and in partnership with more than 100 community partners, 90 faculty members and more than 2,800 students. Since the fall of 2000, more than 30,000 students have participated in service-learning projects and have given 890,677 hours of their time to community organizations. Their time has been worth more than $15,281,828 to local non-profit organizations and to the communities they serve. Service-learning is a key program in Boise State’s commitment to innovative teaching and community engagement.
