Ralph Clare’s essay, “Freedom and Formlessness: Ben Lerner’s ’10:04′ and the Affective Historical Present,” was published in a special issue of Freedom after Neoliberalism in Open Library of the Humanities. The essay explores how Lerner’s novel offers a philosophical notion of freedom and time (influenced by Henri Bergson and Gilles Deleuze) that challenges neoliberal, economic-based ideas of free-market freedoms and time-as-debt.
