Lisa M. Brady and Timothy Silver from Appalachian State University published a chapter in “War Matters: Material Culture in the Civil War Era,” edited by Joan E. Cashin.
Their chapter, “Nature as Material Culture: Antietam National Battlefield,” explores the myriad ways nature played into the Battle of Antietam, the deadliest single day of the U.S. Civil War, and examines the environmental and historical implications of battlefield preservation.
