Boise State is continuing a trend begun in 2013 of naming buildings on campus after Idaho mountains and mountain ranges.
The Academic Counseling and Career Services building (1464 University Dr.) will become Boulder Hall, named for the Boulder Mountain Range that stretches from Challis to Ketchum in Central Idaho. The range is rugged with 12 peaks that reach elevations of over 11,000 feet.
The Culinary Arts building (1310 University Dr.) will become the Copper Basin Building, named for the scenic, remote mountain valley bordered by Pioneer and White Knob Mountain Ranges.
The abbreviation for Boulder Hall is BLDR. The abbreviation for the Copper Basin Building is COPR.
Open House: New Campus Planning and Facilities Building
A new Campus Planning and Facilities building on Belmont Street across from the Micron Engineering Building will be completed in July. An open house with tours and light refreshments will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 13.
The building will the Facilities Operations and Maintenance (FOM) staff and includes a new central receiving warehouse. The project replaces the previous FOM building (adjacent to the Rec Center), which will be the new home of the Micron Center for Materials Research.
Maxey Tookey Architects and Bideganeta Construction provided architectural and construction services. The building is approximately 8,000 square feet and includes a large exterior area for materials and delivery vehicle circulation. Nearly all deliveries to campus will come to the facility’s warehouse.
Capital Project Needs Requests
The second application window for capital project needs (policy #9170) closed in May. Requests have been collected and will be prioritized in July. Those who submitted a capital project needs request that required review by the facilities planning council should expect an update on prioritization in mid-July.
The policy requires that all capital project requests be submitted for prioritization. The policy does not impact routine maintenance and/or repair projects, which should be submitted via a service request with FOM. Capital project requests are reviewed three times per year, with those receiving “high priority” status moving forward to project manager assignment.
