Bhanu Kapil, the creative writing program’s Distinguished Writer for the spring semester, will present a free public reading at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 20, at MING Studios, 420 S. 6th St. in Boise. Doors open at 7 p.m. A reception will follow the reading.
Kapil is the author of five books: “Ban en Banlieue,” “Schizophrene,” “humanimal [a project for future children]”, “Incubation: a Space for Monsters,” and “The Vertical Interrogation of Strangers.”
She specializes in cross-genre narrative and poetics and has taught at Naropa University and in Goddard College’s low-residency MFA. She holds an MA from SUNY Brockport and a BA from Loughborough University, UK.
The Visiting Distinguished Writer position brings writers to Boise State for semester-long teaching assignments. Kapil’s specialty is intensive workshops with student collaboration. As part of her semester-long workshop at Boise State, she and the poetry MFA students have created an interactive blog titled How to Write a Poem.
