Boise State’s School of Nursing honored preceptors with a dinner on March 13. The event celebrated the impact they have on students and expressed gratitude for their dedication to excellence.
Preceptors are nurses who provide instruction in clinical settings. They are a core part of students’ education, equipping them to become more autonomous in their practice through one-on-one guidance and support.
“Preceptors help students transform knowledge into compassionate, skilled care and give students opportunities to demonstrate the clinical judgment they have developed while in our program,” said Brittany Watson, a clinical assistant professor and clinical placement coordinator for the school’s pre-license program.
The event recognized preceptors from the undergraduate pre-license capstone course and the graduate nurse practitioner program. Three preceptors received distinction with the Extraordinary Preceptor Award.
Honorees were selected from a pool of 30preceptors whom students had nominated. Across the board, students frequently praised their preceptor’s ability to explain difficult concepts, inspire confidence and prepare them to enter the workplace after graduation.
“Preceptor mentorship not only helps us shape the next generation of nurses but strengthens the foundation of the nursing profession itself,” Watson said. “Their individual partnership and the partnership of the organizations they work for are both so very valuable and essential to our school’s success.”
