Boise State criminal justice professors Tony Walsh (emeritus) and Cody Jorgensen have recently published the fifth edition of a textbook, “Criminology: The Essentials.”
New topics, events and developments in criminology are included in the book, such as data on racial disparity in arrest rates from the National Incident Based Reporting System, target hardening for crime prevention, “ban the box” initiatives, the “Big Five” personality traits, cognitive behavioral therapy, gun violence and policy, recent trend in right-wing extremism and terrorism, and the opioid epidemic. All crime and victimization statistics in the book reflect the most recently available data.
