Michael Allen, along with collaborators from the University at Buffalo and Kansas State University, recently published an article for The Conversation that discussed President-elect Donald Trump’s claims about the Panama Canal.
According to the article, Trump’s recent claims regarding China’s level of influence over the Panama Canal are unfounded. Panamanian officials have emphasized that the canal remains under their administration, though China has made investments in some of the surrounding infrastructure. They have also stated their interest in operating the canal independently without interference from major countries like China or the U.S.
