Google Sites changes: new templates and provisioning process

The Office of Information Technology is introducing important updates to Google Sites, providing new branded templates for faculty and staff, and implementing changes to the provisioning process to align with university policies and upcoming changes to the federal Americans with Disabilities Act.

New Google Sites Request Process

To ensure accessibility and compliance, the university is also changing how Google Sites are provisioned.

Starting immediately, all Google Sites are now requested through the Office of Information Technology.

Why the Change?

This change is driven by upcoming changes to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, along with ensuring compliance with University Policy 8040 (University Web Policy).

Branded Templates Available Soon

The Office of Communications and Marketing has designed a series of official Google Sites templates that include approved Boise State branding. These templates make it easy for Site owners to create websites that reflect the university’s visual identity.

These new templates will soon be available to choose from when requesting a new site.

How to Request a Google Site

Requests may be submitted through Help Desk Self Service:

If a Google Site is intended to convey information about a current university program, service or activity, the requester may be required to complete an online web accessibility compliance training course.
