Gautam Basu Thakur, professor and chair of the Department of Humanities and Cultural Studies, presented an invited online lecture at the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis on Nov. 23, 2024. The event was open to the school’s students and the general public.
Basu Thakur’s talk addressed the role of the colonized/racialized “Other” in the psychoanalytic thought of Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan, emphasizing especially how the position of the “Other” is mediated by fantasies of its excessive and illicit ‘jouissance’ or enjoyments.
