Student Media staff recognized at national convention

Staff from Boise State’s Student Media were recognized at the
Associated Collegiate Press/College Media Association Fall National College Media Convention. The team received two Best of Show Awards at the event.

Fifth Place – Photojournalism: Sports Photo

Jocelyn Browne, a digital content producer for The Arbiter, was recognized for a photo taken at the Boise State vs. Portland State football game on Sept. 21, 2024. Browne is a fourth-year student majoring in creative writing. This is Browne’s first year working with Student Media.

Seventh Place – Reporting: News Story

Spencer Rentfro, a news reporter working for The Arbiter, was recognized for the story ‘People better wake up’: New anti-DEI law bans required diversity statements for student and hiring admissions. Editors Kiryn Willett (editor-in-chief), Kelly Ann Asker (managing editor) and Olivia Brandon (news editor) were also credited on the award. The faculty advisor for The Arbiter is Carissa Wolf.

Rentfro is a fourth-year student majoring in integrated media and strategic communications; professional and public writing with a minor in journalism. This is Rentfro’s first year working with Student Media.
