Brie Schettle (MFA, 2023) has received the Western Association of Graduate Schools and ProQuest Distinguished Master’s Thesis/Final Capstone Project Award in Creative, Visual, and Performing Art for her thesis project Ecotones.
The association will recognize Schettle at a virtual awards ceremony hosted by Northern Arizona University in March.
Schettle is an interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of art and ecology with a background in painting, printmaking, installation, photography and video. In addition to her degree from Boise State, Schettle holds a BFA in painting and drawing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She has participated in several artist-in-residence programs, including La Porte Peinte in Noyers sur Serein, France, and the Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan, Ireland.
Schettle completed her third residency and first fellowship in 2020 at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology located on the Oregon coast. In addition to her studio practice, Schettle is the Welcome Center and administrative coordinator at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center located in Snowmass, Colorado. She is currently working on several collaborative projects and will exhibit works in spring 2024 at JUMP in Boise and at the Keith and Catherine Stein Luminary at Boise State. Schettle is the second alum of Boise State’s MFA in visual arts program to receive this award. Shawn Edrington, a 2018 MFA graduate, was the first recipient in 2019.
