The Boise State energy research community is invited to the Pacific Northwest Regional Innovation Engines Workshop on Sept. 1, 2022 at the Residence Inn in downtown Boise. The event will explore the future of semiconductors in the region, as industry, government, academic, and non-profit partnerships are formed to advance innovation, economic development, and the workforce needs for the semiconductor industries.
Semiconductors were invented in America, yet the U.S. share of global semiconductor manufacturing is only 12% today. On Aug. 9, 2022, President Biden signed into law the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act of 2022. This law aims to strengthen American manufacturing, supply chains, and national security. It also outlines investment in research and development, science and technology, and the workforce development needs of the future to ensure US leadership in the industries of tomorrow, including nanotechnology, clean energy, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence. Aligned to these goals, Boise State University is partnering with Oregon State University, the University of Oregon, and the University of Washington to build a regional coalition to advance the semiconductor economy of the Pacific Northwest through the National Science Foundation’s Regional Innovation Engines Program.
