The fourth event in the Conviction and Conversation in Contested Times will focus on higher education and will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. April 5.
For the past several years, both in Idaho and across the nation, there has been increasing attention on colleges and universities and their approach to issues of access, affordability, employability and diversity. The Conviction and Conversation in Contested Times event will bring together four higher education leaders who are dedicated to advancing the education of all students, while recognizing and respecting that there are differing viewpoints about the nature and direction of higher education.
They include Debbie Critchfield, president of the Idaho State Board of Education; Kurt Liebich, member of the Idaho State Board of Education; Idaho Representative Barbara Ehardt, member of the Idaho Legislature’s House Education Committee; and Sonny Ramaswamy, president of the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. The conversation will be moderated by Andrew Finstuen.
The conversation series invites and welcomes this dialogue precisely because a university is a place to explore a variety of perspectives, theories and visions about education and the world. And that is also one of the very reasons universities are of such value. They provide environments to prepare students for lives where they will meet competing convictions and contested times.
