Ralph Clare, an associate professor in the Department of English, published a book chapter, “Credit Where Debit is Due: Finance and Consumer Credit in Popular Culture” in Cultural Studies in the Digital Age, eds. Bill Nericcio and Antonio Rafel (SDSU Press/CODE[X], 2021).
The chapter examines films about the 2008 financial crisis and recent credit card ads to show how the financial turn in the economy and its fall out have been cynically depicted as business as usual and the lessons of the crisis virtually ignored.
