Mark Cowan, a professor and the director of the Master of Science in Accountancy-Taxation programs, won a first-place 2020 Eddie Award in the essays and criticism in association/nonprofit magazines category for his story “Depression and the CPA”.
According to Ken Tysiac, the editorial director of the Journal of Accountancy, Cowan’s story was “courageous, impactful, and important to many readers.”
Eddie Awards are extremely competitive and difficult to win. Cowan received the only first-place award among the American Institute of CPAs’ team, although a handful of honorable mentions were awarded.
“It’s the premier award for publications in our category, and because there are many entrants, it’s not easy to stand out from the crowd,” Tysiac said.
