The Boise State research community is invited to attend Research Computing Days Feb. 11-12 in the Student Union Building.
Sponsored by the Office of Information Technology and the Division of Research and Economic Development, the annual Research Computing Days event highlights the importance of data science, scientific programming and computing skills to education, research and the 21st century workforce.
Workshops and sessions include:
- Tools to Plot, Graph and Analyze Data: Learn how to use Unix Shell for automating tasks, version control with Git, and Python, MATLAB, or R for manipulating data through Software Carpentry workshops.
- Hack-A-Thon: Get hands-on experience writing a simple physics solver in Julia, MATLAB, or Python for a real head-to-head performance comparison.
- High Performance Computing: Learn how to use high performance computing using Boise State and Idaho National Laboratory compute clusters.
- Tools for Reproducible Science: Learn how to use containers and GitHub.
- Keynote Speaker – Ilkay Altintas: Altintas is the chief data science officer at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC), UC San Diego, and founder and director for the Workflows for Data Science Center of Excellence, and a fellow of the Halicioglu Data Science Institute (HDSI). She also is the founder and director of the WIFIRE Lab.
Registration is free, and lunch is provided both days.
