Eluterio L. Escamilla has been selected as the new Veteran Services coordinator. Fittingly, his first day on the job will be Nov. 11, Veteran’s Day.

“I look forward to addressing the needs of a very important population that has given so much for the betterment of others,” Escamilla said.

Escamilla comes to Boise State from California State University, Fresno, where he has been the director of TRIO Student Support Services Program, TRIO Student Support Services Veterans and a grant writer.

As a nontraditional student who began his higher education as a U.S. Marine, Escamilla has a special interest in serving first generation, low income and disabled students. His volunteer and committee work includes serving as a tribal veteran advocate for the Santa Rosa Rancheria and a volunteer director for the Central Valley Veterans Day Parade.

For the past 10 years, he has been a member of the Marine Corps League, Detachment 14th, holding these positions: senior vice commandant, junior vice commandant, and judge advocate.  Currently, he is the chair of the league’s scholarships committee.

Escamilla has been married for 33 years and has three children. For relaxation, he practices Shotokan, writes haiku or take long rides on his wave runner.
