Shaun Gann, an assistant professor of criminal justice, was invited to speak at the Utah Criminal Justice Conference Sept. 11 in Salt Lake City. His talk was titled “Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC) in the Juvenile Court.”
His presentation provided an overview of the most recent research on DMC in juvenile courts, including its prevalence, potential causes and implications. He also discussed a number of DMC reduction efforts that have been implemented in the U.S., with a focus on the empirical evidence supporting their efficacy.
