Boise State will formally invest Dr. Marlene Tromp with the leadership of the university, celebrate the opening of the Center for the Visual Arts, present the True Blue Inaugural Gala and more during inauguration activities the first week of October.
Students, staff, faculty and community members are invited to attend the investiture ceremony at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Velma V. Morrison Center for the Performing Arts. Faculty members who wish to don their regalia and participate in the ceremony are asked to sign up by Sept. 23.
Doors open at 1 p.m. for the ceremony. Please arrive early for best seating and to avoid any security or seating delays. Business attire recommended. All are invited to a celebratory reception immediately following the ceremony in the Morrison Center lobby and courtyard.
The opening celebration for the Center for the Visual Arts will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, with a program and ribbon-cutting, followed by an open house and building tours until 7:30 p.m. Complimentary parking is available for the Oct. 3 events in the Towers parking lot and the Brady Garage.
The True Blue Inaugural Gala kicks off inauguration week events at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, in the Stueckle Sky Center. Proceeds will benefit the President’s True Blue Endowed Scholarship, helping support Idaho students. The evening gala will feature readings by 2019 United States Poet Laureate Joy Harjo. The author of nine books, Harjo is also a renowned musician and the recipient of numerous literary awards. Tickets are required and may be purchased for this black-tie event here.
Investiture ceremonies are among the oldest traditions in academia.
Dr. Tromp joined Boise State on July 1 as the university’s seventh president. She previously served as campus provost and executive vice chancellor at the University of California at Santa Cruz, one of the top-ranked public universities in the country, and the dean of Arizona State University’s New College of Interdisciplinary College of Arts and Sciences, as well as the vice provost of the university’s West Campus.
