Bronco Shop recognized for success of its digital course materials program

The Boise State Bronco Shop was recently awarded the Excellence in Course Materials Award at the Independent College Bookstore Association conference in Chicago. The award recognizes the Bronco Shop’s Inclusive Access course materials program for its management, growth and cost intervention over the five year period beginning in 2019. The program is a digital textbook/course materials model that saves students roughly 50% – 80% compared to traditional printed textbooks. Students enrolled in classes which are part of the program have their course materials delivered digitally at the start of the semester.

Highlights of the program include:

  • Full launch in Fall 2019 with 15 sections, 1,000 enrollments.
  • The program readily handled the uncertainty of COVID-19 as digital access meant “no contact” for students and used books became scarce.
  • The program scaled to 190 sections and 9,000+ enrollments in Fall 2020.
  • The Fall 2024 program size was roughly 1,000 sections and 33,000+ enrollments.
  • The program has saved students over $6 million in course material costs since 2019.

The Bronco Shop provides extensive data to the Independent College Stores Report annually as a collaborative partner with other independent, university-operated stores across the United States and Canada.
