Office of Technology Transfer event celebrates innovation and World Intellectual Property Day

Boise State’s Office of Technology Transfer highlighted its commitment to research and innovation during a recent event that coincided with World Intellectual Property Day.

Hosted by the Center for Research and Creative Activity and the Office of Technology Transfer, which resides in the Division of Research and Economic Development, the event recognized faculty and staff whose inventions are helping transform ideas into real-world impact. It marked the university’s first formal celebration of those advancing intellectual property through research, patents and invention disclosures.

Throughout 2024, 19 members of the Boise State community submitted 10 invention disclosures, key milestones in the path to commercializing new technologies. Additionally, the university secured nine new patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. These patents cover a wide range of innovations, including a Plasma Scalpel developed for microbial removal and a Universal qPCR Telomere Assay.

Recognizing innovation as both a campus and community asset, the Office of Technology Transfer works to move research from the lab into society through strategic licensing, start-up formation and institutional partnerships. These efforts contribute to regional economic growth and strengthen Boise State’s reputation as a hub for research and entrepreneurship.

By honoring the people behind the patents and the teams who support their work, Boise State continues to foster a culture of innovation, creativity and collaboration across campus.
