Employee benefit open enrollment period is April 21-May 9

Boise State University’s annual open enrollment period for employee benefits begins Monday, April 21, and will end Friday, May 9, 2025. The enrollment window gives benefit-eligible faculty and staff an opportunity to review, update or make changes to their benefits for the upcoming fiscal year.

Changes made during the open enrollment period will go into effect on July 1, 2025.

What is open enrollment?

Open enrollment is the once-a-year opportunity for eligible employees to make changes to their benefit selections, including:

  • Make changes to medical or dental plans without a qualifying life event.
  • Enroll or re-enroll in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA).

Human Resources and Workforce Strategy encourages all benefit-eligible employees to review plan options, compare coverage levels and costs, and choose the coverage that best supports their health and financial well-being in the year ahead.

Elections made during open enrollment are effective July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026, unless a qualifying life event occurs. No action is required if there is not a change in coverage, or enrolling or re-enrolling in an FSA.

What’s new this year?

  • An updated benefits elections checklist and guide to help to navigate options.
  • Human Resources and Workforce Strategy (HR) is introducing a more streamlined, secure benefits submission through Bronco Hub – no more paper forms for medical and dental elections.
  • Easy access to resources, including a step-by-step job aid and how-to video, are available.

Information Event

The FY26 Open Enrollment Information Event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, in the Student Union Hatch Ballroom. Employees can stop by to speak with benefits representatives, ask questions and gather information about their options. Click here to add to Google calendar.

Premium changes and support

The State of Idaho has announced premium increases for FY26. Most plans will see modest increases, while the Traditional Plan will experience a more significant rise.

It’s important to carefully compare plan premiums, coverage options, and provider networks to find the best fit for each employee and their family. View current rates and compare plans.

Boise State will continue to contribute a substantial portion of employee medical and dental premium costs. Premium rates are influenced by factors including plan utilization, providers and hospital costs, enrollment trends and the overall rise in healthcare expenses.
