Matt Stallings, associate professor of accounting, along with his co-authors, was recently accepted for publication in Issues in Accounting Education for their research article, “Adding Environmental, Social, and Governance Reporting to an Introductory Accounting Course.”
The article highlights the growing importance of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting in business and accounting education. It introduces a teaching strategy design to help faculty incorporate ESG topics into introductory accounting courses. Stallings and his colleagues cover the basics of ESG reporting, the accounting professional’s role in the process and offer various teaching resources, including example disclosures, discussion scenarios, frameworks, quizzes and presentation slides. Their goal is to give students an early understanding of sustainability and ESG concepts, preparing them for future course work and careers.
