A team of social work alumni at Boise State received the 2025 Society for Social Work and Research Excellence in Research Award Honorable Mention. The award was given to them for “Randomized Trial of an organizational implementation strategy to improve measurement-based Care Fidelity and Youth Outcomes in Community Mental Health” published in the Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. This award honors outstanding studies that have helped improve social work practices and policies as well as finding solutions to social issues. It recognizes the best original research published in a given year.

Nate Williams and Susan Esp, two of Boise State’s social work faculty, worked with Nallely Vega, 2017 alumni of Boise State’s social work bachelor’s program and Lexy Gomez-Wilson, 2020 alumni of Boise State’s Master of Social Work program, presenting on the work they did concerning how to improve the delivery of mental health care for youth. This recognition reflects their commitment to advancing knowledge within the field of social work and making a difference in the world beyond the classroom.

“The Society for Social Work and Research is the premier research organization for our profession and for social work science,” said David Becerra, professor in the School of Social Work. “Earning this recognition from this society is a testament to the high quality and rigor of the research conducted by this research team. Their work is extremely important, as it will help improve the delivery of mental health service and improve mental health outcomes for youth.”
